UAE-US travel: Etihad expands North America network as Chicago doubles and Charlotte goes daily
Dreamliner aircraft to operate both upgraded services
ABU DHABI – Etihad Airways is accelerating its expansion across the United States, unveiling two major upgrades to its North American network that significantly boost capacity and connectivity.
The Abu Dhabi-based carrier will double its Chicago services and scale up operations to Charlotte, reflecting robust demand across both routes. The changes are set to take effect from 15 June, marking a key step in the airline’s broader growth strategy.
The move underscores the airline’s focus on strengthening links between North America and high-growth markets across India and the Asia-Pacific region, while also improving onward connectivity within the United States through partner networks.
Abu Dhabi-Chicago route
Flights between Abu Dhabi and Chicago O’Hare will increase to twice daily, reinforcing one of the airline’s most established gateways in North America. The enhanced frequency is expected to provide travellers with greater flexibility and a wider range of one-stop connections via Abu Dhabi.

The route plays a central role in linking passengers to key destinations across Etihad’s network. These include major Indian cities such as Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Chennai, Delhi, Hyderabad and Mumbai, alongside prominent Asia-Pacific hubs including Bangkok, Kuala Lumpur and Manila.
The expanded schedule also improves access to the wider US domestic network, enabling smoother onward journeys beyond Chicago. All services on the route will be operated by the Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner, configured with 32 Business and 271 Economy seats.
Charlotte flights
Etihad will also increase its Charlotte service from four weekly flights to a daily schedule from 15 June until 8 September. The rapid expansion follows the successful launch of the route on 20 March 2026 and highlights strong early demand from both point-to-point and connecting passengers.

The daily service strengthens connectivity between the southeastern United States and Etihad’s global network, offering efficient one-stop links via Abu Dhabi to destinations across India and the Asia-Pacific. It also supports inbound travel into the US, alongside growing cargo demand on the route.
The Charlotte flights will also be operated by the Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner, maintaining consistency in product offering across both upgraded services.
Etihad network
The latest enhancements form part of Etihad’s phased approach to network expansion, with capacity being deployed in response to market demand. The increased frequencies are expected to strengthen Abu Dhabi’s position as a global transit hub, linking regions across the Middle East, South Asia and beyond.
In addition to boosting passenger traffic, the upgrades are set to enhance cargo flows and improve connectivity across partner airline networks in the United States. The expanded schedule offers more seamless travel options for passengers moving between continents, particularly across fast-growing markets.
